WATSONVILLE, CA— Reports released by the candidates in California’s 30th State Assembly district yesterday showed that Watsonville Mayor Pro-Tem Karina Cervantez Alejo is leading by a substantial landslide on the fundraising front.
For the recent report ending on December 31st, Watsonville’s Mayor Pro-Tem Karina Cervantez Alejo raked-in a whopping $118,000 in new contributions, bringing her total raised to more than $268,000. She maintains a substantial cash-on-hand war-chest of over $238,000.
Her closest opponent has raised a mere $19,273 by the December 31st report. With the addition of a $5,000 personal loan that she gave herself, her total grows to a paltry $24,273.
Watsonville Mayor Pro-Tem Karina Cervantez Alejo has raised roughly 14 times more overall and maintains 11 times more cash on hand than her competitor— two substantial markers of a candidate’s ability to be viable and communicate a message to voters.
Dave Jacobson, a campaign consultant working on Karina Cervantez Alejo’s campaign, released the following statement:
“Karina Cervantez Alejo’s dominance in fundraising underscores the fact that our grassroots campaign has tremendous momentum. It also shows that there is a real groundswell of support among neighborhood leaders on the ground who want a new generation of leadership— not more status quo establishment politics. That’s why by every barometer, Karina is outpacing, out-organizing, and out-campaigning her opposition.”
Today’s news comes on the heels of a major victory for Cervantez Alejo stemming from this weekend at the California Democratic Party’s AD-30 “Pre-Convention Caucus” vote, where, in a stunning blow to her competition, 43 out of 45 total possible votes among eligible delegates– a staggering 96%— voted for Cervantez Alejo over the other Democrat in the race.
